Janette Bright - Staff Governor - Term of Office October 2016-2020
Janette is the staff governor and joined the governing body of the academy at its start. She has worked at the school since 1998. Her roles include managing student support centre, cover, supporting the children in care and working with the safeguarding lead. Janette served as a governor for many years at a lower school in Houghton Regis so has experience in the role. Janette wants to see all children achieving the best they can in a safe, supportive environment.
Jeff Hooper - Chair of Governing Body - Term of Office February 2013-2017
Following an extensive career in schools, including headship, Jeff embarked on a career in school improvement with the former Bedfordshire County Council. As a school improvement adviser, Jeff worked with lower, middle, special and upper schools in the Dunstable area and with a range of schools in the lowest Ofsted categories. In the years prior to the division of the county into two unitary authorities, Jeff took on the responsibility for standards at Key Stages 3,4 & 5 in 54 middle and upper schools. At the time of the division, no middle or upper schools were in an Ofsted category. Following the division Jeff went to work for a government agency, having shared responsibility for secondary schools in the East and East Midlands. At the end of this time, CfBT invited him to work with the school improvement team in Lincolnshire and subsequently with the Schools' Trust in Reading. Jeff says he is interested in securing the best possible education for the young people at Queensbury.
Geoffrey Brown - Community Governor - Term of Office December 2014-2018
Geoff joined the governing body in December 2014. Geoff has worked in the education sector for more than fifteen years, both in the civil and military areas. His job role was Learning and Development Adviser with responsibility for overseeing and monitoring the teaching activities at a Defence college. Geoff was part of the senior management team and was responsible for the management of the development of instructors. Geoff has a particular interest in ensuring that students with special educational needs and disabilities receive appropriate support and he has taken on the governors’ responsibility for SEND.
Samantha Sage - Vice Chair - Term of Office July 2014-2018
Sam joined the governing body in July 2014 as a parent governor having had a daughter newly joining the school. She is also a school governor for a local primary academy school and has an active community role as assistant leader in a local Girl Guide group. The community work brings fundraising experience and she is also the treasurer for the Girl Guide group. She is a technical manager for a large global food consultancy business and works on a contract for a major high street coffee shop. Her role as technical manager brings a good range of auditing skills as she is a fully trained lead assessor. Her aspiration as a governor is to see the academy make the transition from good to outstanding and be part of the team to make that happen by providing help and support on the journey. This will result in Queensbury becoming the school of choice for Dunstable.
Anne Thompson - Community Governor - Term of Office July 2014-2018
Anne joined the governing body in July 2014. Previously she was Chair of Governors at a Luton secondary school and governor at a Roman Catholic Secondary school. She is programme manager for an education charity running youth and adult careers guidance services in London and the South of England. She has a teaching background. Anne brings knowledge and experience of senior management, financial management, education and training and careers information, advice and guidance. As a governor Anne is keen to support the academy to deliver outstanding education, to inspire students and ensure that each makes excellent progress.
Lina Soura - Community Governor - Term of Office March 2017 - 2021
Lina joined the governing body in February 2017. Lina has spent over 12 years in the Higher Education and Further Education sector running international activities, business development and managing multi-million pound transnational education projects. She brings in expertise in budget and resources management, compliance and operations. She currently works for a local university leading the development of links between businesses and the university, European and Government funded business growth initiatives, knowledge transfer partnerships and technology development. Through her role as a governor, Lina is looking to contribute to the local community and is passionate about providing equal opportunities to all children while influencing them in a positive manner.
