Still life painting emerged in Europe around the start of the seventeenth century. Inanimate objects, such as food, flowers, and tableware, were no longer details within a larger painting, they became the subject of the work itself. Many of the greatest still life painters of this era were women, who experimented with intriguing new compositions, subjects, and styles. Join Hyde curator Bryn Schockmel as she examines the artists featured in the exhibition A Feast of Fruit and Flowers: Women Still Life Painters of the Seventeenth Century and Beyond.
