Admissions Of Students
Queensbury Academy is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive academy, with one admission age group for the year 2021. Admission to Queensbury Academy is the responsibility of the Local Governing Body of the Academy on behalf of Anthem Trust in their capacity as an admissions authority.
Students will be admitted at age 11 without reference to ability or aptitude. The Local Governing Body will admit 210 students (the admission number) per academic year to Year 7.
Definitions
* “Looked after” children
A 'looked after child' is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989) at the time of making an application to a school. A child is regarded as having been in state care outside of England if they were in the care of or were accommodated by a public authority, a religious organisation, or any other provider of care whose sole or main purpose is to benefit society. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order). This includes children who were adopted under the Adoption Act 1976 (see section 12 adoption orders) and children who were adopted under the Adoption and Children's Act 2002 (see section 46 adoption orders). Child arrangements orders are defined in s.8 of the Children Act 1989, as amended by Section 12 of the Children and Families Act 2014. Child arrangements orders replace residence orders and any residence order in force prior to 22 April 2014 is deemed to be a child arrangements order. Section 14A of the Children Act 1989 defines a ‘special guardianship order’ as an order appointing one or more individuals to be a child’s special guardian (or special guardians).
** Home Address
The home address is considered as the address where the child lives for the majority of term time with a parent (as defined in section 576 of the Education Act 1996) who has parental responsibility for the child (as defined in the Children Act 1989). Where a child lives normally during the school week with more than one parent at different addresses, the home address accepted for the purposes of school admissions will be the one where the child spends the majority of term time. If a parent can show that their child spends an equal amount of time at two addresses during school term time with a parent, they can choose which address to use on the application. If a parent has more than one home, we will accept the address where the parent and child normally live for the majority of the school term time as the home address.
*** Sibling
Sibling’ is defined in these arrangements as half, full, step, adoptive or foster brother or sister living predominantly in the same home as the child at the time of application and/or at the time of admission.
Year 7 Applications
Applications for admission into Year 7 must be made to the home Local Authority in accordance with procedures explained in their admission literature and web site.
Parents can apply using the on-line application procedure (see details on Central Bedfordshire website) or by contacting Central Bedfordshire for a “Transfer to Secondary School/Academy Application Form”. When completed, this form must be returned to Central Bedfordshire Council by the deadline on the form. Parents must apply to the Local Authority in which they live.

The allocation of places will take place after the deadline and parents will be notified on the national offer day in early March each year, by the LA Admissions Service, as to whether their applications have been successful. Parents who make applications after the official deadline, even if they have met the admissions criteria, will not be entitled to automatic places, if this would mean exceeding the Published Admission Number of 210.
In Year Applications
Requests for admission into other year groups should be made to the Local Authority on the In-Year application form. The form is available from the Local Authority and can also be downloaded from the Local Authority website, link above.
Appeals
If an application for a place at Queensbury is unsuccessful (whether made during the normal admissions round or in-year), parents will be informed why admission was refused and given information about the process for hearing appeals. If parents wish to appeal, they must complete the Admission Appeal Document 2021, form available via the link above and set out the grounds for the appeal, then send with any supporting documentation to the Business Manager at admin@queensbury.anthemtrust.uk
Admission Arrangements for Sixth Form Students to Queensbury Academy
Queensbury welcomes applications into its Sixth Form from students without reference to ability or aptitude. However, students will only be offered places subject to them achieving the entry requirements for the level of course, they wish to study as well as the subject-specific requirements, as outlined in the Sixth Form Prospectus. The Academy reserves the right, however, to respond to changes instituted by national and local authority initiatives.
Details of the application process for Queensbury Sixth Form are available within the Sixth Form Prospectus or from the Academy website. Applications will only be considered if the admission number has not been exceeded and they will be considered on a “first come first served” basis.
The allocation of places will take place and parents will be informed by the end of March as to whether a conditional place (subject to the student meeting the entry requirements) will be offered.
If the admission number is exceeded a waiting list will be maintained until the October Half Term.
